(By Priscilla Lalisse-Jespersen) ROCKWALL – A Rowlett man pled guilty to kidnapping his now former wife and was sentenced to 18 years in prison Dec. 17 by 439th District Court Judge David Rakow.

According to Rockwall County Assistant District Attorney and Family Violence Division Chief Kerri New, Justin Michael Goetz kidnapped his then wife at gunpoint from the Walmart parking lot in Rowlett, May 30, 2015.

After driving through Rockwall, threatening to kill his victim and himself, the woman, fearing for her life, caused the vehicle to crash on a rural road in Hunt County. A bystander called the police and the defendant was apprehended at the scene.

During the investigation it was learned that the defendant had used a pellet gun in the kidnapping. Because he was a previously convicted felon in Colorado for trying to kill a girlfriend and her family after she had ended their relationship, he was unable to buy an actual firearm.

Officers from Rowlett Police Department, Rockwall Police Department, the Texas Rangers and the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office participated in the rescue, investigation and prosecution of this case.
